The CrossFit Open is the most exciting event in the sport of fitness. It is a chance for the CrossFit community to come together and compete in a worldwide, online competition. It is an all-inclusive event, providing an opportunity for both scaled and Rx athletes to test out their physical and mental strength. The divisions are divided by age, region and ability.
The ages range from teen to master athletes. For many of you this may be your first time participating in the Crossfit Open. For some of us who have done this over the past 5 years we keep coming back for more! If you are still on the fence here are three reasons to sign up:
You’re good enough!
One of the main reasons people don’t sign up is they don’t believe they are good enough. You must understand, the Open is for the average athlete more than for the elite athlete. Yes, the regional athletes compete to make it to the next level but for 95% of us the Open is an opportunity to test our new gymnastics skills and strengths, build relationships and have fun.
What if I fail?
Kids don’t fall and think to themselves, “maybe walking is not for me.” They get up and keep going. But as we get older we forget that challenging our physical and mental strength is good for us. We feel the need to retire that side of ourselves. The CrossFit Open gives us the opportunity to try again. It gives us a chance to let go of our reservations and truly give it our best shot.
If you have reservations about the weight or the movement then we suggest the 75% intensity rule; go 75% on intensity until you feel comfortable. If you feel good then rev it up! Competing for 5 weeks in the Open requires discipline. For some just getting to the end of 5 weeks is the challenge!
It’s damn fun!
If you enjoy the community feel of class and get motivated by a room full of people cheering each other on then the Open will give you a new level of fun in fitness!
